Abstract
Purpose: The professional graduate medical school (GMS) was established in Chungbuk National University in 2005 to cultivate doctors of a new era that would have better humane and social culture and be equipped with diverse backgrounds other than medical knowledge. We decided to assess the characteristics of both GMS and medical college (MC) students by comparing their learning styles.

Materials and Methods :The Index of Learning Styles (ILS) modified by Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH) was used to determine learning preferences. Every first-year students completed the ILS on the first month of admission for 3 years from 2007 to 2009.

Results:Though students of MC and GMS showed no difference, there was tendency to be more sequential in MC and global in GMS and to be more deductive in MC and inductive in GMS. All the five dimensions tested favored ¡¯balance¡¯ learning style most. Overall characteristics were shown to be ¡¯sensing¡¯ in perception dimension, ¡¯visual¡¯ in input modality dimension, and ¡¯sequential¡¯ in understanding dimension.

Conclusion: There was no difference in all the five dimensions of ILS between GMS and MC students during 3 years period. Students of Chungbuk National University Medical School and Medical College favored sensing, visual and sequential learning style in overall.
